The Adventure+Play=Discovery project aims to enhance the visitors experience of Woodhouse / Snidley Moor through the installation of work produced by a group of arts practitioners. It is important to recognise that the objective is not to produce an "arts" trail. Instead it is to install a series of props which will enhance the visitors sensitivity to the environment. This will include way markers, eye catching focal points, sacred stones, fairy tale generators, a musical instrument and a seat.
Hi Dave
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the tall way-marker, it's quite intriguing. The text on a rock idea looks better on reconstituted sandstone, I think, and would be less obvious as a result, thus more in keeping with the idea of discovery. With that in mind, perhaps something less boxy? More like the latest picture of the low rock which you say was the inspiration? I know it may seem a bit literal.... but what do others think?
These photoshop images are impressive. As they provide a true representation of the finished pieces in situe. I'm very happy with the concrete way markers. Visually they provide enough of a contrast between themselves and their environment without becoming removed from it, which was the intention. They will be far more impressive in the flesh, when you can see the very "real" detail in the piece. I'm excited by these!
ReplyDeleteWith regard to the stone by the "wishing tree" i really like the two images above of the box like stones emerging from the ground. In preference to the second idea of the tablet set in the ground on the second post. (But then again i would as im obsessed with structure) There is no doubt that the "tablet" will fit in with the discovery element of the work better. However i really dont think there would be any issue using the box forms so long as they are not too imposing and contradict the "discovery" element. I think they could be almort as subtle as the "tablets" whilst being, visually, far more interesting.
