The next phase

Moving on – these three images show proposals for both the stone by the “wishing tree” and the way markers. Both are made from cast concrete. The stone at the wishing tree will have words taken from the notes which have been left by visitors. Some would be painted cold. The stone it self would emerge from the ground. An alternative would be to have a number of similar stone –each with less word – laid flat on the ground. Leaves would cover them from time to time. The way markers are again concrete cast from the reconstructed tree trunk. The top section has a viewing hole in it which would be directed to the next marker. The next marker may not be able to be seen and this would again contribute to the theme of Adventure+Play=Discovery. The third image indicate what the stone may look like if cast in reconstituted sandstone.

  1. My preference for the wishing tree piece would be to go for the alternate proposal of many flat stones. I like the idea that plants will grow over & around the stones conceeling them slightly, so finding them will be a discovery.

I really like the colour of the reconstituted sandstone image. In the autumn season when all the red/oranges of the leaves in the wood are present, the sandstone piece will fit almost unnoticed in the scenery. (again the idea of discovery)

Finally the lecture by the woodland trust last friday was brilliant. It gave me more of an understanding about the objectives of the trust and what role we are playing as the creatives. Cheers Dave for organising it.

  2. I also enjoyed Simon's talk, both for the insight into the work of the Woodland Trust and for the incentive to contact organisations with proposals for art-work.
